So I wanted to get me some new eyeglasses. I can't see out of mine and it was time for an update! My insurance (Opticare of Utah) goes through Standard Optical so I made my appointment there. First off, I started going to Standard Optical two years ago and first tried the store in South Ogden. My experience was horrible. The doctor was not nice, they said they would call when my contacts came in, so I waited a month and then finally called and they said they were there. I went to go get them and it was only one box when I needed two (ya know I do have two eyes!) and the exact same thing happened with waiting a month for them.
I decided to try the Roy store instead last year for my annual exam. Last year I got contacts and honestly the experience wasn't that bad. It still cost a lot but what else can ya do? This year I made an appointment for glasses and got the exam done and all that fun and dandy stuff...then they had me look at the glasses and they sent someone over to help me. I had heard about the two for 95 on the glasses but the kid was like "that's only single vision and wouldn't work because of blah blah blah" so he picks out a pair and has me try them on and is like "those look great!" being the idiot I am I fell for it. I decided I liked those ones and was proceeding to get them...then he was like "if you buy another pair you get half off!" oh look Chanel falls for it again. So I say ok and look at another pair...then we get to the totaling and it comes to $750.00! I almost fell out of my chair! But he was saying how nice they are and he showed me a sheet showing that I actually saving almost a $1000.00. He also was like and we can do a payment plan where if you pay it off within 12 months then there is no interest! Being the sucker I am...I felt a little sick to my stomach...but I agreed! (Chanel!) big mistake! Cause as he finalized everything and handed me the receipt, that is when he told me all sales are final (like that did me a lot of good when it was already processed!)

I got thinking about it that night and started stressing out really bad. Sixty dollars a month was a lot of money that I didn't have. I'm a broke college student! So I was up a lot of the night stressing about it and was planning on calling first thing in the morning to see if I could cancel my second pair (that's where more than half of the expense was). Well I called the store and asked for the manager and told them what was happening and they said that I do need to talk to the manager but she wasn't there. So I called corporate...they said that the manager was there and that she will give me a call back. Finally after a run around, she called me while I was at work and told me that there was nothing she could do. I was pretty much crying on the phone, telling her I did not want/need the second pair, that I felt like I was talked into it and that I couldn't afford it! She continued to say that there was nothing she could do because she had called and they had already started making them at four that morning (sounds like bullshit). She said that they are custom made materials and that there was no refunds on them...so pretty much I was out of luck but she could give me free cleaner! (oh yeah thanks ho! that's gonna help me pay for 400 dollar glasses) anyway...I got all upset and it was eating at me pretty bad so I went to lunch and came home and looked on their website. Low and behold I found a number for the laboratory so I called it and was really nice and just told them my name and just asked if my glasses had been started yet. Nope! they hadn't even been started. So the ho manager had lied right to me! I became livid but this was better than being sad and pathetic about it. I told them to put a stop to them making that second pair and called back to the corporate office. I told them what happened and I was so mad, they said that they would have the corporate manager give me a call. Well I went back to work and she did call me there and told me "not to stand up for the manager but when we submit orders we consider them 'started.'" I was like but she flat out said she called the lab and they were already started, the manager told me the same thing and we got nowhere with that but she said that she had canceled the glasses and that they could do the price adjustments tomorrow when the manager was back in the store. I was happy with that. But I am still nervous that they are going to screw it up somehow...anyway...that was my horrible experience with Standard Optical. When I was getting them, I didn't think it was that bad but then after trying to cancel them (not even 24 hours had passed since they were ordered) and the run around I got (and the lie!) I don't want to deal with them again. I hope everything finalizes the way it should...cause I don't trust them! grrr...thanks for listening to me vent and DON'T GO TO STANDARD OPTICAL!:)
